BY JEFF WALKER STAFF With nearly 99% of the vote counted in Louisiana, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has won the state's Republican primary with an overwhelming 49% of the vote.
The wide margin of victory is somewhat of a surprise. The GOP front runner Mitt Romney, who has failed to get a stranglehold on the nomination, only garnered 27% of the vote.
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich just may have hit the end of the road in Louisiana. It was thought that Gingrich needed at least a second place showing in Louisiana to continue. Gingrich finished a distant third with only 16% of the vote in Louisiana.
Some in the in political circles think an announcement on his political future by Gingrich could come as soon as Sunday.
