(CLEVELAND, OH) - Just when you think it can’t get any worse. The Cleveland Browns play another game and prove everyone wrong. On Sunday at First Energy Stadium, in front of a crowd that was more Cincinnati then Cleveland, the dismal Browns (2-10) allowed the playoff bound Bengals (10-2) to easily dominate them on the way to a 37-3 blowout that was even more pathetic then the score may suggest for Cleveland.
Andy Dalton was 14 for 19 passing, with two touchdowns and he also ran for one more, A.J. Green caught five balls for 128 yards and a score, Jeremy Hill ran for 98 yards on 22 carries, as the Bengals offense walked all over the Browns paper thin defense.
Austin Davis, in his first Browns start, threw for 230 yards on 38 pass attempts. As usual, the quarterback received little help, as the team continued their attempts to have all of their signal callers in body casts by the end of the season. Isiah Crowell ran for 62 yards on 11 carries, with a long run of 23 yards, but the team only ran the ball 19 times all afternoon. Brian Hartline had his best game as a Brown with eight catches for 83 yards.
Dalton got his team on the board in the first quarter when he capped off an 84-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0. It was the first of seven consecutive scoring drives for Cincinnati.
The next time Dalton got the ball he led his team on a simple three play drive that covered 54-yards in just over a minute and ended with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Green. He then added two field goal ending drives to give his team a 20-0 lead. The Browns added a field goal before the half to remind everyone that their offense was a part of this game, making it 20-3 at half.
The Browns came out after halftime and marched down the field on a seven-play drive that looked promising until it stalled out and they were forced to attempt a Travis Coons field goal. In typical Browns fashion, the kick was blocked.
The Bengals added 17 more easy points and eventually put in their backups to give the Browns a chance.
The way Cleveland played, the Bengals could have had backups play the entire game and it wouldn’t have mattered.
The Browns attempt to regain fans next Sunday when they take on the San Francisco 49ers at First Energy Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
