Red Raiders struggle to finish in 33-0 loss to Perry

(PERRY, OH) — The story of the night for the Raiders was finishing, finishing plays, finishing quar-ters, and finishing drives. They just couldn't find a way to finish. Multiple times the Perry Pirates found themselves in a fourth down and long situation, with Davon Badley and the Raider defense showing up to play tough. But multiple times, the Pi-rates found a way to execute, taking advantage of the Raiders secondary through the air, just as Rocky River did. In the end Perry shut out the Red Raiders 33-0.

It wasn't just on defense though. Offensively, the Raiders showed the ability to move the ball, especially in the second half, but again they could not finish. Multiple turno-vers struck the Raiders after moving the ball and making the Pirates' defense bend. QB Cavon Wise threw two interceptions, including a pick six in the second half, and sure handed RB, Shaun Alston, fumbled the ball away deep in their own territory.

It was a tough night for the Raiders, and Perry just seemed to come up with plays when they needed to do so.

But there are some positive takeaways for Harvey...

QB Cavon Wise, even with two interceptions, showed that he can make a lot of throws, and with wideouts, Trent Hull and Chase Goines, there is opportunity for the Raiders to have a balanced attack on offense. We saw glimpses of that in Rocky River and in Perry. It opens up a lot for the two headed monster that is Shaun Alston and Chris Burt out of the backfield.

The Raider Defense made some adjustments. The second half was better for the Raiders. They started to attack more and used their quickness to get to the Pirate playmakers quicker. They were decisive and it impacted the game.

The struggles the Raiders have seen the first two weeks remind us all how young this team really is, but Harvey should be encouraged going forward. It's all there for the Raiders, they just have to FINISH!

Next week the Red Raiders open their home schedule as they welcome the Edge-wood Warriors to Jack Britt for a 7 pm Friday matchup.  .
