Captains snap skid, take down Loons 6-4

Tuesday night was game two in the Lake County Captains three game series at Classic Park against the visiting Great Lakes Loons. The Captains who had lost three games in coming into Tuesday night were hoping to break the skid and start a positive one. The Captains accomplished their goal as they defeated the Loons 6-4 in front of 702 fans.

The Captains got on the board first with two runs in the first inning courtesy of a two-run home run by designated hitter Li-Jen Chu. The home run by Chu was his first of the season and gave the Captains a 2-0 lead.

The second big blow of the game by the Captains came in the fourth inning when catcher Logan Ice blasted his first home run of the season over the right field fence with two men on and gave the Captains a four-run lead at 5-1.

After Great Lakes followed with a single run in the top of the fifth inning off Captains starting pitcher Micah Miniard, the Captains answered with a single run to take a 6-2 lead at the end of five innings.

The Loons tallied two more runs, both unearned off Captains reliever Ben Krauth.

Krauth picked up the win in relief for the Captains. The big lefty went two and one third innings allowing two runs, no earned runs. With the win Krauth improves to 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Loons starter Parker Curry picked suffered the loss. Curry pitched three and two thirds innings allowing five runs, three earned on five base hits, one base on balls and he struck out three. With the loss, Curry falls to 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA.

The Captains and Loons will wrap up the three games series on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Righthander Jordan Sheffield will make the start for the Great Lakes Loons. The Captains will send Aaron Civale to the mound. Civale has no record with a 5.79 ERA.
