Captains win pitchers duel with Hot Rods 2-1

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and the Bowling Green finished up their four-game series on Thursday night at Classic Park. It was a pitcher’s battle as the game was played at a quick pace of 2:56 minutes and the Captains came out on top 2-1 in front the 1,010 fans at Classic Park.
The Captains got on the board in the first inning when Jose Fermin led off the inning with a single to center field. Fermin then stole second base, his third steal of the season. After Bo Naylor flew out to left field, Will Benson grounded out and Fermin moved to third base. Josh Rolette then singled to left field and Fermin crossed the plate with the Captains first run of the game.
The Captains plated their second run in the third inning when Fermin led off the inning with a double to left field. Naylor then drew a base on balls, putting men on first and second for Benson, Benson flew out and the runners did not advance. Rolette then drew his own base on balls to load the bases. Mitch Reeves then grounded into a fielder choice to the third baseman and Fermin came home giving Lake County a 2-0 lead.
As the offense was manufacturing runs, Captains starting pitcher Raymond Burgos was mowing down the Hot Rods. Burgos went five and a third innings allowing one run, it was earned on six hits. The big lefty also issued on base on balls and struck out four Hot Rods. Burgos picked up the win and improves to 2-0 on the season with an 0.87 ERA. Hot Rods starter Joe Ryan was tagged with the loss. Ryan went four and two thirds innings allowing the two runs, both earned on five base hits. He issued three base on balls while striking out three Captains batters. With the loss Ryan falls to 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA.
With the win the Captains improve to 6-2 and remain in first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.
The Captains will now travel to Dayton and visit 5/3 Field to play the Dragons for a three-game series. Game time for game one on Friday will be 7:00 p.m.
