The Lake County Captains and South Bend Cubs played game three of their three game series on Friday Night at Classic Park. The Cubs had won the first two games by a combined margin of 17-8. Friday night was no different as the Cubs scored early and often to pound the Captains 15-9 in front of 4,543 fans at Classic Park.

The Cubs scored in six of the nine innings and scored multiple runs four of the six innings in which they scored. Lefty Brady Aiken made the start for Lake County and got shelled. Aiken, did not make it out of the third inning, lasting only one and two third innings, giving up six runs, all earned on eight base hits, two of which were home runs which accounted for five of the six runs. Aiken also issued one base on balls and struck out two.

Meanwhile, South Bend starter Erlin Moreno made easy work of the Captains in the first three innings, allowing one run on one hit and struck out three.

South Bend reliever Tyson Miller picked up the win in a less than stellar performance. Miller relieved Moreno to start the fourth inning and went five innings. He allowed five runs, all earned on 10 base hits. He also issued one base on balls and struck out one Captains batter to pick up the win. With the win Miller improves to 5-4 with a 4.92 ERA.

Aiken took the loss and falls to 4-12 with a 5.06 ERA.

The Captains hit three home runs in the game. With the three home runs the team has tied the franchise record of 119 long balls. The 2014 team also had 119 home runs. There are 30 games remaining in the season so there is an excellent chance that the 2017 edition of the Captains will capture the home run record. The home runs on Friday night came off the bat of Luke Wakamatsu, it was his eighth long ball and it was a solo shot in the first inning. Home run number two was belted by Michael Tinsley it was his first home run of the season, it was also a solo shot. The final home run of the game was courtesy of Emmanuel Tapia. The home run off the bat of the big first baseman was his 24th of the season and was a two-run shot in the ninth inning and pulled the Captains to within six runs at 15-9, which ended up being the final total.

The Captains will continue their homestand with a five-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Saturday the Captains will celebrate Cleveland Sports History Night.
