All safe after shooting near Riverview Elementary in Painesville

(PAINESVILLE, OH) - Shots were fired near Riverview Elementary school in Painesville on Thursday cause the facility to go into lockdown as a precaution. All students and faculty are safe according to officials.

Lake County sheriff's department said that a suspect was in custody and the school was placed into lockdown.
















Painesville Township trustee, Gabe Cicconetti posted online "this was an isolated incident of a suspected domestic dispute between two parents.

The incident took place around 9:10 a.m. and the school was placed into lockdown immediately.

















Riverside schools official X account (formerly Twitter) put out a statement at 1:00 p.m. "Riverview Elementary was placed on lockdown due to a domestic issue that began off-site and then carried into the parking lot of Riverview Elementary. During this dispute, a shot was fired near the vehicles involved in the parking lot, away from the school toward Madison Avenue. The shot was not fired in the direction of the school. As a result, no major injuries were reported." The full statement can be found on X under their handle @RLSD_Beavers.


















The districts Facebook page put out a statement at 11:30 a.m. "There is no further threat to the school and Riverview Elementary is no longer on lockdown,"

They did note that they allowed parents to pick up their children if they felt it necessary. The district has also thanked the police and sheriff's department across all communications.
