Rep. John Rogers to lead House Democrats on legislative panel
(COLUMBUS, OH) – State Rep. John Rogers (D-Mentor-on-the-Lake) Monday was named Local Government Committee's Ranking Member, the House Minority's highest ranking official on the legislative panel.
"It is a tremendous honor to have been appointed the Ranking Member of Local Government Committee," said Rep. Rogers. "After 19 years as Mentor-on-the-Lake's mayor, I came to Columbus because I was concerned about all of the challenges facing our local communities and schools. Serving in this new role, I will continue to be an advocate for policy solutions that prioritize the diverse needs of our local communities. I have every reason to believe that under the stewardship of Chairwoman Anielski this will be a very active and productive body."
The House of Representatives has 19 standing committees. House Republicans have slightly altered the committee structure for the 131st General Assembly, splitting state and local government into two separate committees and adding the Community and Family Advancement Committee.
House Democratic Leader Fred Strahorn (D-Dayton) announced the placements saying, "With this committee leadership in place, we have the right people in the right positions to take on the important issues facing Ohioans. These members have a strong, diverse and focused mix of talents and abilities that will contribute to a higher quality of life for everyday Ohioans. We are in a stronger position to make sure that all Ohioans can feel the promise and opportunity of our state."
Committee meetings are open to the public and held any time before or after House floor sessions. The full membership of committees will be announced at a later date.
