Captains can't stop Manzanero, fall to Dragons 7-4

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and Dayton Dragons played game two of their three game series on Tuesday night at Classic Park. The Captains came back in dramatic fashion to win game one 5-4. Tuesday’s game did not start well for Lake County and did not end well as they fell to the Dragons 7-4.
The Dragons got on the board first in the inning when Pablo Manzanero belted a two-run home run. The hone run was only the beginning of a great night got Manzanero.
The Captains struck back in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game. With one out in the inning Tyler Freeman was hit by a pitch by Dayton starter James Marinan. Will Benson then doubled to center field and Freeman crossed the plate with the Captains first run. Benson then moved to third base on a wild pitch with Ruben Cardenas at the plate. Cardenas then grounded out to the third base; Benson held at third base. Bo Naylor then drew a base on balls to put men at the corners for Josh Rolette. Rolette came through as he doubled to the gap in left field and Benson scored tying the game Naylor ended up at third base. Mitch Reeves then grounded out to end the Captains threat with the score tied 2-2.
The Dragons retook the lead in the second inning on an unearned run on a throwing error by Captains second baseman Jose Fermin.
Dayton scored their fourth run of the game in the top of the third inning when with two outs, Miguel Hernandez singled and was driven home when Juan Martinez doubled and Hernandez scored, increasing the Dragons lead to 4-2.
The Captains closed the gap to one game in the bottom of the third when Freeman led the inning off with a double, Benson then drew a base on balls to put men on first and second. Cardenas then lined out. Then with Naylor at the plate Freeman moved to third on a wild pitch. Then the Freeman and Benson executed the second double steal of home this year. Benson ended up second base and Freeman stole home making the score 4-3.
That was as close as Lake County would get to the Dragons as the Dragons added a run in the fifth and two more runs in the seventh. The Captains did manage another run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little too late.
Mota took the loss for Lake County falling to 0-3 with a 7.50 ERA. Dayton starter Marinan picked up the win for his five innings of work. With the win he improves to 1-1 with a 4.34 ERA.
The Captains and Dragons will play the final game of the series on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. Righthander Lyon Richardson will take the mound for Dayton. Richardson is 0-2 with a 5.73 ERA. Shane McCarthy will tow the rubber for the Captains. McCarthy also a righty is 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA.
