Captains pounded by Timber Rattlers 10-5

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains returned home on Tuesday night and welcomed the visiting Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to town to start a six game homestand. The Rattlers were not very good guests as they pounded the Captains 10-5 in front of 1,229 at Classic Park.
Things got ugly early for Lake County as Wisconsin scored two runs in the first inning. Piled five more on in the third inning and then added two more runs in the fourth inning. Captains starter Francisco Perez, who was one part of a two pitcher no-hitter his last time out, did not get an out in the fourth inning and was replaced by James Karinchak to finish the inning. When all was said and done Perez had given up nine runs all earned on 10 base hits. He also issued four base on balls and struck out four Timber Rattlers.
The Captains fought back, but it was not enough. They scored five unearned runs off Timber Rattlers starter Dylan File in the fifth inning, but could manage no more.
The Timber Rattlers managed plated their tenth run of the game in the seventh inning off Captains reliever Jonathan Teaney. The home run came off the bat off Payton Henry it was his second of the season and gave the Timber Rattlers a 10-5 lead.
One of the bright spot offensively for Lake County was Will Benson’s three run home run in the five run fifth inning. The home run was Benson’s fifth of the season. The big right fielder also has a team leading 12 RBI. The Captains did pound out 11 hits in the game, including the Benson home run and three doubles, two by Ernie Clement and one by Jonathan Laureano.
File picked up the win for Wisconsin pitching five and two thirds innings. Allowing the five unearned runs on eight hits. He also issued two base on balls and struck out five Captains. With the win File, righty improves to 3-1 with a 4.10 ERA. Perez took the loss for the Captains and falls to 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA.
The Captains and Rattlers will play game two of the three game series on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. Christian Taugner will be on the mound for Wisconsin. Taugner, a righty is 0-3 with a 4.26 ERA. Kirk McCarty will take the hill for the Captains. McCarty, a southpaw is 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA..
