Captains outlasted by TinCaps 6-4

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and Fort Wayne TinCaps played the third game of their four-game series on Saturday night at Classic Park. The first two contests went to extra innings and the teams split the pair. Unfortunately for the Captains and the 6,854 fans in attendance at Classic Park the TinCaps came out on top 6-4.
The TinCaps got on the board first in the first inning with three runs off Captains starter Francisco Perez. There were three hits, a hit batsman and an error that contributed to the three runs.
The Captains closed to within one run in the second inning when Fort Wayne Starter Mason Thompson with one out hit two straight Captains batters and then Miguel Eladio doubled and drove home one run and the Jesse Berardi hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the second run of the inning and pull the Captains to within one run at 3-2.
Things stayed quiet until the seventh inning when Fort Wayne put three more runs on the board off Captains reliever Luis Jimenez in his first inning off relief.
The Captains struck back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ulysses Cantu led off the inning with a double. He moved to third two hitters later when Berardi singled and scored when the next batter Nolan Jones reached on a fielding error. Berardi scored two batters later when Jonathan Laureano grounded out to pull the Captains to within two runs at 6-4.
Perez took the loss for Captains. He went six innings and allowed five hits, three runs, two were earned. He also struck out six. With the loss Perez falls to 5-5 with a 3.73 ERA. Thompson picked up the win for the TinCaps. He went five innings and allowed two runs, both earned. He issued one base on balls and struck out nine Captains hitters. With the win Thompson improves to 6-4 with a 5.02 ERA.
The clubs will finish the series on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. North Royalton native Nick Margevicius will be on the hill for the TinCaps. Margevicius a lefty is 5-4 with a 2.92 ERA. Righthander Jean Carlos Mejia will be on the mound for Lake County. Mejia is 0-2 with a 3.33 ERA.
