(CLEVELAND, OH) - Dak Prescott threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns and Ezekiel Elliott added two more scores as the Dallas Cowboys (7-1) won their seventh straight game in a 35-10 drubbing of the winless Cleveland Browns (0-9). The loss is the 12th in a row for the Browns dating back to the 2015.
Cleveland got on the board first when Cody Parkey hit a 31-yard field goal minutes into the game, giving the Browns a 3-0 lead. Dallas answered back when Prescott found Jason Witten for a 26-yard touchdown pass to cap off a 10-play, 75-yard drive, that gave the Cowboys the lead for good with 6:47 left in the opening quarter. On the play, Witten blew by recently acquired Browns linebacker Jamie Collins, who played most of the game despite being added just five days ago.
The Browns defense continued to be historically horrible in the second quarter when Elliott went in for his first touchdown of the day to extend the Dallas lead to 14-3 and then to 21-3 when Cole Beasley stood alone in the endzone before catching Prescott’s second scoring pass of the game. Cleveland answered back before halftime with their best drive of the day when Cody Kessler found Terrelle Pryor on a 12-yard strike, but the offense did very little after that.
The Cowboys would add two more scores in the second half, one by Elliott and the other on yet another wide-open touchdown pass from Prescott to Gavin Escobar, who scored with no Browns defender within seven or eight yards of him.
With the five touchdowns given up by the defense on Sunday, the Browns defense has now given up a team record 34 touchdowns through nine games and have allowed 25 or more points in every game this season, those stats are nearly as embarrassing as the fact that First Energy Stadium sounded more like a Dallas home game than a Browns home game for much of the day.
Prescott finished an efficient 21/27 for 247 yards and three scores, Elliott had 18 carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns, while Witten finished with eight catches for 134 yards and a score to lead the Cowboys.
Cleveland was led by Kessler who was 19/27 for 203 yards and one touchdown. Pryor added five catches for 47 yards and one score, while running back Isaiah Crowell led the team in receiving yards with 64 on four catches, he was unable to find any luck on the ground yet again as he only tallied four yards on six carries.
The Browns will need to bounce back quickly as they will be on primetime Thursday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens this week. Dallas will look to extend their winning streak to eight when they travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers.
Dawg Biscuits:
•Browns C Cam Erving was ejected in the first quarter for fighting with Cowboys defender David Erving. He was also the first player out of the locker room, refusing to speak to reporters after the game.
•Collins finished with eight tackles, one QB hit, and one tackle for a loss in his Browns debut.
•Corey Coleman returned to the lineup after breaking his hand to catch three balls for 41 yards.
•The Browns are 0-9 for the first time since 1975.
•Kessler finished with a 104.4 QB rating and played solid despite having Dallas defenders in his face much of the day. He was sacked four times and hit seven other times. Following the game, he was taken to the locker room for X-Rays on his leg, but told reporters he would be fine for Thursday night.
