Blue Devils boys keglers send Lake Catholic to their first loss 2431-2425

(WICKLIFFE, OH) - Not only was Monday back to school for students at Wickliffe and Lake Catholic it was a clash of the two Lake County boys bowling powers. Both teams entered the match undefeated with the Cougars from Lake Catholic entering with a 7-0 record and the Blue Devils from Wickliffe with an unblemished 4-0 record. When the dust settled after the two team games and three baker games the Blue Devils pulled out the come from behind win 2431-2425.

















The opening team game of the match Lake Catholic took the lead with 1024 and the Blue Devils finishing with a 976. The Cougars were paced by a nice 268 game by Jimmy Meden. The Cougars had two other bowlers over 200, Brayden Mann 225 and Tristan Nigrelli 203. The Blue Devils also had three boys over 200 which included Paul Lumadue 208, Nathan Brisar 206 and Wyatt Boehmer 201.
















The second game belonged to Wickliffe as they edged out the Cougars 900-888 to cut the Cougars lead in the match to just 36 pins. The Blue Devils didn’t have a bowler hit 200 in the second game, but Boehmer and Lumadue each had 191 along with a 189 by Brisar and a 170 by Drew Meitzner and 159 by John Colacarro. Mason Panhorst led Lake Catholic with a 204 and Nigrelli had a 190. With Wickliffe 12 pin win in the second game the Cougars lead was at just 36 pins heading into the baker games.
















Wickliffe, in their history has struggled in baker games, but Monday was a different story as they took game one 180-163 to cut the Cougars lead to just 19 pins. The second game the Blue Devils powered their way to take the lead in the match with a 211-159 win, taking a 33 pin lead into the final baker contest. The third game Lake Catholic started off quick with strikes in the first two frames while Wickliffe had a couple of misses and the Cougars had a 30 pin lead in the game through two frames, cutting Wickliffe’s match lead to only three pins. The rest of the game things were even with Wickliffe getting a little more pin count than the Cougars. The Cougars needed to strike out in the tenth frames to win the match as Wickliffe had already missed in the tenth to finish with a 164, Lake Catholic entered the tenth frame with a possible 197. The Cougars got the first strike in the tenth, but could not strike on the second ball in the tenth and ended the game with a 191 falling six pins short of a comeback giving Wickliffe their fifth win and the first loss on the young season for the Cougars.

The Blue Devils (5-0) boys will be in action next on Wednesday at Wickliffe Lanes when they take on the Notre Dame Cathedral Latin Lions at 4 pm. Lake Catholic (7-1) will hope to get back on track on Tuesday (January 7th) at Rollhouse Mentor at 4 pm.
