The Cleveland Indians defeated the Minnesota Twins Tuesday evening by a final score of 4-2 from Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Indians scored first for the second time in the series. Jose Ramirez singled in the first, stole second base, then proceeded to move to third on a Francisco Lindor ground out. Carlos Santana the hit an RBI single to left field to score Ramirez and give the Indians a 1-0 lead. The lead didn't last very long, though. Shane Bieber walked the first two of three Twins batters he faced in the second. Luis Arraez made him pay for the free bases as he doubled to center field, which scored Miguel Sano. Two batters later, Max Kepler singled to score Luis Arraez and put the Twins up 2-1.
Minnesota went to their bullpen after five strong innings from starter Rich Hill, who gave up just one run on four hits while walking two and striking out five. Jorge Alana pitched the sixth inning for the Twins and it wasn't pretty. Jose Ramirez got the inning going with a lead off single followed by a Francisco Lindor home run - his fifth long ball of the year. The home run put the Indians up 3-2. Carlos Santana walked and then advanced to second on a ground ball from Franmil Reyes. Later in the inning, Carlos Santana came around to score on a double from Tyler Naquin, who was pinch hitting for Jordan Luplow. This made it 4-2 Cleveland.
Shane Bieber was once again magnificent for the Indians. Earning his sixth win on the year, Bieber went six strong innings allowing four hits, on two runs, walking three and striking out ten. It's his third consecutive start with at least ten strikeouts.
Next up for Cleveland is game three of the three-game set with the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm from Progressive Field. The Indians will send Mike Clevinger to the mound. This is Clevinger's first start since he was optioned to the alternate training side due to breaking the Indians' Covid-19 rules. His last start was back on August 5th against the Cincinnati Reds, where he went 5 2/3 innings, giving up no runs on two hits while walking five and striking out four. The Twins will counter with Jose Berrios, who has had a rough start to the year; he is 2-3 with a 4.75 ERA.
