Captains squeak past TinCaps 3-2

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and Fort Wayne TinCaps played game two of their two game series on Wednesday night. The Captains won the pitcher duel 3-2 sending the 6,210 in attendance at Classic Park home happy.
The TinCaps got on the board first with a single run in the first inning off Captains starter Alex Royalty.
The Captains bats were quiet until the third inning when they tied the game 1-1. The run came when Daniel Schneemann led the inning off with a double. After Jesse Berardi lined out Ruben Cardenas singled and Schneemann moved to third base. Jose Fermin struck out and then Cardenas trying to steal second was picked off but before the out was recorded Schneemann scored from third base to tie the game.
The Captains took the lead in the fourth inning with one out Hosea Nelson tripled to center field. After Cody Farhat struck out, Makesiondon Kelkboom came to the plate and belted a single scoring Nelson and giving the Captains a 2-1 lead.
The third Lake County run came in the fifth inning when Cardenas doubled to lead off the frame. Fermin successfully moved Cardenas to third on a sacrifice bunt. Cardenas then came home when Josh Rolette grounded out to the first baseman increasing the Captains lead to 3-1.
The TinCaps scored the final run of the game an unearned run in the eighth inning off Captains reliever Kellen Rholl.
Royalty picked up the win for Lake County going five innings allowing only one run, it was earned on two hits. He also issued three base on balls and struck out seven TinCaps. With the win Royalty improves to 4-4 with a 3.90 ERA. Fort Wayne starter Ryan Weathers was tagged with the loss. Weathers a lefty went fourth and two thirds innings allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits. The lefty also issued two base on balls and struck out four Captains. With the loss he falls to 2-3 with a 3.38 ERA.
The Captains and TinCaps will now move to Fort Wayne for a two-game series. The first game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Parkview Field. Zach Draper will take the mound for the Captains. Draper a lefty is 4-0 with a 1.97 ERA. The TinCaps will counter with Sam Keating. Keating is a righthander, he is 3-4 with a 5.79 ERA.
