Akron Nellie Rodriguez belted a grand slam, and Shawn Morimando worked six strong innings in his first start of the season, as the Akron RubberDucks defeated the Bowie Baysox, 10-4, Friday night at Prince George’s Stadium.

Turning Point
The RubberDucks (2-0) held a 5-4 lead going to the ninth inning, but rallied to score five times off Bowie lefty Dennis Torres. After Torres walked in a run to make it 6-4, Rodriguez launched a grand slam to left field to blow the game open. It was Rodriguez’s first homer of the year, and his second career grand slam in an Akron uniform. He was 2-5 on the night, also adding a double off the wall in the second inning.

Winging It
Morimando (1-0) was outstanding in his six innings of work. After allowing a two-run homer by Baysox first baseman Trey Mancini in the first inning, he allowed no further scoring. The 23-year-old lefty scattered four hits, walked three and struck out one. Reliever Antonio Romero earned his first save of the season by working the final two innings and retiring all six batters he faced.

Duck Tales
Akron battled back from the early 2-0 deficit with RBI singles by Bryson Myles in the second and Jeremy Lucas in the fourth. The Ducks took the lead for good in the fifth against David Hess (0-1) when Clint Frazier scored from third while Yandy Diaz was being tagged out in a rundown between first and second. Frazier was 3-4, with a double. Eric Stamets enjoyed another productive night, going 3-5, with an RBI.
