Captains led by Royalty shut out Lugnuts 2-0

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and Lansing Lugnuts played game three of their three game series on Monday night. The Lugnuts had won the first two games of the set. On Monday night it was another pitchers duel as it was on Sunday afternoon when the Lugnuts won 3-2. Tonight, the Captains came out on top 2-0 on Bark in the Park Night at Classic Park sending the 2,173 dogs and humans in attendance home happy.
The Captains scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. It came off Lansing starter righty Eric Pardinho. Pardinho a native of São Paulo, Brazil. The city has a population of 12 million, but the city has only one baseball field. With one out in the inning Jose Fermin, Ruben Cardenas and Jesse Berardi had back to back to back singles and Fermin scored on the Berardi single giving the Captains a 1-0 lead.
The Captain added a second run in the eighth inning when Bo Naylor hit his seventh home run of the season.
Captains starter Alex Royalty was masterful on the night pitching six scoreless innings allowing only three hits, issuing one base on balls and struck out four Lugnuts. With the win Royalty improves to 5-4 with a 3.53 ERA. Skylar Arias picked up the Save for Lake County pitching the final two innings and striking out three Lugnuts. The save was Arias’s third of the season. Pardinho took the loss for the Lugnuts. He pitched five innings allowing one run, it was earned on four base hits. He also issued one base on balls and struck out five Captains. With the loss the Brazilian phenom falls to 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA.
The Captains will now head out on the road after a league wide off day on Tuesday and travel to Clinton Iowa to play the LumberKings (Miami Marlins) at 7:30 p.m. Tyler Jones a righthander will be on the mound for Clinton. Jones is 3-4 with a 1.87 ERA. Zach Draper will take the mound for the Captains. Draper, a lefty is 5-0 with a 1.74 ERA.
