(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and Bowling Green Hot Rods played game two of their three game series on Thursday night. Things went no better on Thursday night as the Captains dropped their second straight to the Hot Rods 8-1 sending the crowd of 2,120 home disappointed.
Once again Bowling Green got on the board first in the first inning when the lead-off batter Vidal Brujan reached on a bunt single. Jim Haley came to the plate next and belted a Gregori Vasquez pitch over the left field fence to give the Hot Rods a 2-0 lead. After Carl Chester flew out to center field Ronaldo Hernandez belted a home run over the left field fence, extending the lead to 3-0. The three runs given up by Vasquez were just a bad dream, compared to Juan Hillman's nightmare first inning on Wednesday night when he only recorded one out and seven runs before being removed from the game.
The Captains broke into the scoring column in the third inning when Miguel Eladio smashed a one out triple to center field. He trotted home when Gabriel Mejia hit a long sacrifice fly to deep right field, pulling the Captains to within two runs at 3-1.
The Captains bats went silent at this point and the Hot Rods continued to add on as they scored four runs in the fifth inning. The inning included the second home run of the game by Hernandez. It is the third time this season he has hit two home runs in a game and the second time he has done it against Lake County at Classic Park. He has hit four home runs in the last three games at Classic Park and is hitting .363 against Lake County on the season in 41 at bats. All runs in the inning were charged to Vasquez.
The Hot Rods finished off the scoring night with a single run in the eighth inning off Dakody Clemmer.
Bowling Green starter Resly Linares picked up the win. Linares went six innings allowing one earned run on seven hits. He issued one base on balls while striking out eight Captains. With the win Linares improves to 4-3 with a 4.08 ERA. Vasquez was tagged with the loss falling to 5-6 with a 3.95 ERA.
