Captains stun Lugnuts with 10-9 comeback win

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains returned home on Saturday night for their final series of the season, a three-game set with the Lansing Lugnuts. The 5,994 fans in attendance on Fan Appreciation night did not go home disappointed as the Captains won 10-9 with their eleventh walk-off win of the season.
The game was scoreless through three innings until the Lugnuts broke through with two runs in the fourth inning off Captains starter Felix Tati.
Unfortunately for Tati the fourth inning was not his worst inning of the game. The fifth inning turned out to be much worse and the end of the line for Tati as he gave up five more runs, only three were earned. Tati exited the game with two outs in the fifth. His final line was four and two thirds innings, he gave up seven runs, five earned on seven hits. He issued four base on balls and struck six Lugnuts.
The Captains pulled to within four runs at 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Will Benson blasted his 21st home run of the season over the right field fence driving home Dane Hutcheon and Jonathan Laureano whom had both singled earlier in the inning.
Captains reliever Maiker Manzinillo allowed another run in the seventh inning when he allowed two singles and the Lugnuts had an 8-3 lead.
The Lugnuts added a ninth run in the eighth inning off Manzinillo. Manzinillo could not finish the inning and was replaced by Jordan Scheftz who recorded the final out of the inning.
The Captains added two runs in the eighth inning courtesy of a single, triple, base on balls and a wild pitch to close the gap to 9-5.
The Captains completed the comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning. After Hutcheon was retired to start the inning Laureano singled and then Benson belted his second home run of the game over the right field fence to close the gap to 9-7. J.J. Berardi then grounded out and Mitch Reeves then doubled to center field. Jose Vicente then pinch hit for Tre’ Gantt and singled on a line drive to center field and Reeves scored pulling the Captains to within one run at 9-8. Miguel Eladio came to the plate next and belted a laser shot over the left field fence into the bleachers to give the Captains the 10-9 walk off win.
Scheftz picked up the win. Scheftz went one and one third innings allowing one hit and two base on balls while striking out one Lugnuts batter. With the win Scheftz improves to 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA. Lugnuts reliever Daulton Rodriguez took the loss for Lansing. Rodriguez pitched one and two thirds innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits and one base on balls. He also struck out one Captain in the disaster of a performance. With the loss Rodriguez falls to 2-1 with a 5.80 ERA.
The two clubs will play game two on Sunday afternoon at 1:30. The Lugnuts will send Kyle Weatherly to the mound. Weatherly, a righthander is 3-2 with a 3.64 ERA. Lefty Juan Hillman will take the mound for the Captains. Hillman is 5-12 with a 5.31 ERA.
